I. Introduction to the College of Education for Human Sciences
The College of Education for Human Sciences is one of the colleges of the University of Hamdaniya, established in September 2023 following its separation from the College of Education. The college includes four academic departments: Arabic Language, English Language, History, and Educational and Psychological Sciences, offering both morning and evening programs at undergraduate and graduate levels.
The teaching and supervision are carried out by a distinguished cadre of faculty members, supported by a skilled team of administrative and technical staff across various college departments. They collectively contribute to advancing the academic and educational mission of the college and steer it toward broader horizons of progress.
The college awards a Bachelor’s degree in all the mentioned fields and also offers a Master’s degree in History (all branches) and Arabic Language (Language and Literature branches). The college confidently pursues its planned objectives, with a primary goal of preparing competent teaching staff to support educational institutions such as middle, preparatory, and secondary schools, as well as institutes. Graduates not only acquire academic knowledge but also develop pedagogical skills, teaching techniques, and broad educational competencies, reflecting the college’s commitment to producing well-rounded professionals annually.
II. Departments
The College of Education for Human Sciences currently consists of four departments:
- Arabic Language
- English Language
- History
- Educational and Psychological Sciences
The college aims to establish additional departments in line with the needs of educational institutions in Iraq and plans to expand graduate studies to provide the community with highly qualified professionals.
1. Department of Arabic Language
The Department of Arabic Language was established in 2011 with the foundation of the College of Education, Hamdaniya Branch, under the University of Mosul. On 22/12/2015, the branch separated from the University of Mosul and became an independent institution named the University of Hamdaniya, with the Arabic Language Department functioning as an independent department within the college.
- Duration of Study: Four years, culminating in a Bachelor’s degree.
- First Graduating Class: Academic year 2015/2016.
- Admission Requirements: According to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, holders of secondary school certificates (literary, scientific, applied) may apply.
- Career Opportunities: Graduates can work in teaching, linguistic editing, writing, and authorship across various fields.
2. Department of English Language
The Department of English Language was established in 2011 and became independent in 2015 with the establishment of the University of Hamdaniya.
- Duration of Study: Four years, culminating in a Bachelor’s degree.
- First Graduating Class: Academic year 2015/2016.
- Future Plans: Expansion to include Higher Diploma, Master’s, and Doctorate programs.
- Admission Requirements: Secondary school graduates (literary, scientific, applied) in accordance with Iraqi university admission standards.
- Career Opportunities: Teaching, translation, media-related work, literary writing, translating foreign plays, and tourism-related translation for English-speaking visitors.
3. Department of History
Established in 2011 and became an independent department in 2015 under the University of Hamdaniya.
- Duration of Study: Four years, Bachelor’s degree awarded.
- First Graduating Class: Academic year 2015/2016.
- Admission Requirements: Secondary school certificate in the literary branch.
- Career Opportunities: Teaching at various levels, historical research in research centers and museums, working in public libraries, and serving as a tour guide in historical and religious sites.
4. Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences
Established in 2011 and became an independent department in 2015.
- Duration of Study: Four years, Bachelor’s degree awarded.
- First Graduating Class: Academic year 2015/2016.
- Future Plans: Expansion to Higher Diploma, Master’s, and Doctorate programs.
- Admission Requirements: Secondary school graduates (literary, scientific, applied) as per Iraqi university standards.
- Career Opportunities: Teaching at various levels, social guidance in schools and universities, and psychological counseling.
