Department Head’s Message

Since its establishment in 2011, the department has sought to develop students’ scientific and cultural capabilities by providing them with various types of knowledge, particularly those related to their field of specialization: the history of Iraq, the Arab countries, and the world, spanning various historical eras: ancient, Islamic, modern, and contemporary. This focus is on studying the history of Iraq throughout the ages, as well as the countries geographically neighboring Iraq. This is due to the historical, religious, and cultural ties that bind these countries to Iraq, with the aim of strengthening ties of brotherhood and friendship and improving economic and trade relations between them. Furthermore, students receive other knowledge and sciences related to educational and psychological sciences, computer science, geography, the Arabic and English languages, the principles of historical research, and the philosophy of history. The goal is to graduate teaching and research cadres prepared to engage and interact with society, particularly in the field of teaching and scientific research. This goal is also to prepare them to complete their postgraduate studies, which began in the 2020 academic year./2021. After obtaining official approvals from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the department has provided all necessary specialized teaching staff. With the highest academic ranks, a central library, and appropriate buildings.
